Acupuncture
for Menopause

Menopause and perimenopause acupuncture

We now understand that Perimenopause can start years before periods stop.  The symptoms, both   physical and emotional, can be overwhelming.  This is why I have taken additional Postgraduate training in this field and it is so important for me to be a provider of Acupuncture for menopause symptoms in Essex.

I support women with symptoms such as:

Vasomotor symptoms

  • Hot flushes and night sweats

  • Sudden heat, flushing, sweating and disturbed sleep

  • Acupuncture aims to stabilise temperature regulation and reduce frequency and intensity.

Sleep and anxiety

  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep

  • Waking in the early hours and feeling “wired”

  • Acupuncture supports the parasympathetic (rest‑and‑digest) response, helping the body to switch off and stay asleep.

Mood, brain fog and emotional changes

  • Low mood, irritability, tearfulness

  • Feeling overwhelmed or unlike yourself

  • Treatment focuses on calming the mind, supporting Heart and Liver Qi (in Chinese medicine terms) and improving emotional steadiness.

Joint pain, headaches and physical discomfort

  • Aches, stiffness, tension and headaches

  • Acupuncture can improve circulation, reduce muscular tension and support pain modulation.

Vaginal dryness, libido and pelvic health

  • Discomfort, dryness, reduced libido

  • While acupuncture doesn’t replace local oestrogen, it can be part of a holistic plan to support pelvic blood flow, stress, sleep and overall wellbeing.

Please know that acupuncture can be used alongside HRT or as an alternative for women who can’t take it or prefer not to.  I support and don't judge your choices on this front.  I am here for you.

What to Expect

  • Detailed consultation: We’ll explore your symptoms, cycle and hormonal history, medical background, medications (including HRT), lifestyle and stress levels.

  • Individualised treatment plan: Combining Chinese medicine pattern diagnosis with a modern, evidence‑informed approach tailored to your specific menopause picture.

FAQs

Is menopause acupuncture right for me?  Acupuncture may be especially helpful if:

  • HRT isn’t suitable for you, or you prefer a non‑hormonal option

  • You’re on HRT but still experiencing sleep disturbance, anxiety or hot flushes

  • You feel overwhelmed, exhausted or “not yourself” and want a space to be heard and supported

  • You’re navigating early menopause, surgical menopause or treatment‑induced menopause (e.g. after cancer treatment) and need gentle, oncology‑informed care

I'll l always take time to understand your story, your priorities and what “feeling better” looks like for you

How many sessions will I need? Response varies, but as a guide:

  • Initial course: Weekly sessions for 4–6 weeks to build momentum

  • Review: We’ll assess changes in hot flushes, sleep, mood and energy

  • Ongoing support: Spaced‑out sessions (e.g. every 2–4 weeks) to maintain benefits, especially through more turbulent phases of perimenopause

  • Acupuncture can sit alongside HRT, non‑hormonal medications, lifestyle changes and psychological support. We’ll always encourage an integrated, team‑based approach.

What is the treatment like?  Treatments are gentle.

  • Fine, sterile needles are placed at carefully selected points—often on the legs, arms, abdomen and sometimes ears.

  • Most women describe treatment as deeply relaxing, with many drifting into a light sleep during the session.
